Outdoor Learning: Excursions Optional Bolt-On Module – Emergency Procedures & Home Base Contact

1.5 hours. Please note: this is an optional course.

All relevant staff and approved volunteers wishing to explore this key area in more depth.

Who is this course for

Heads of Establishments, Excursions Co-ordinators, Groups Leaders and any other staff involved in Educational Excursions (Category 1-4 inclusive).

PLEASE NOTE:  Group Leaders wanting to deliver Category 3 and/or Category 4 excursions must book onto the Group Leader (Theory) Course: https://www.edinburgh.gov.uk/directory/104/a_to_z/O

The Group Leader (Theory) Training is the mandatory course required for all Category 3 or Category 4 excursions.

Aims and outcomes

  • To examine the Councils requirements regarding Emergency Procedures and the use of Home Base Contacts
  • To ensure all CEC Establishments have a robust set of procedures that fulfil all statutory obligations in respect of the Health & Safety at Work Act and the Councils Excursions Policy
  • To examine the contents of Emergency Procedures and to guide & assist Establishments to develop their own specific guidance.

Course content

  • Examination of the current Council Policy
  • Practical examination of existing examples of Emergency Procedures (both good & not so good)
  • Discuss the role of the Home Base Contact and practical advice on the role.
